Chondro Update #1

Not a big update—I haven’t really learned anything new.

The main item of note is that my first (and maybe last) surgery will be September 15th. After this surgery, I’ll be in the hospital anywhere from 2 to 7 days depending on how much CSF leakage I have and my general progress in recovery. Fun fact: apparently they’ll be cutting a square of fat (most likely from my belly) to plug the hole they’re leaving in my sinus area.

Right now, the biggest question I have (aside from what exactly the tumor is) is what recovery will be like. I have no experience with anything like this; I had a broken arm once in high school, and that’s it. When the doctors tell me I’ll be fatigued, I don’t really know what that means because the most fatigued I’ve ever felt has always been a self-inflicted experience that I could “power through” if necessary. As a result, when I imagine my recovery, I get the feeling I’m imagining it all wrong, and that’s a cognitively odd idea.

At any rate, it seems likely that I won’t be posting much more than a few FB updates for about a week after surgery. After that, hopefully it’ll be back to normal writing-wise at least. I suppose we’ll see!
